On the eve of October 1st the singing duo Joanie Sigal and Tom Godfrey of “Broadway and Beyond” performed in the lobby of the Historic Clearwater Building to a packed audience. Sigal and Godfrey have a 20-year history of performing together with their first performance being in the very same Clearwater Building in 1996.
Notable guests at Saturday’s performance were city officials, a professional comedian and magician, a retired senior judge from Russia and a newspaper marketing executive from St. Petersburg.
The pair performed 16 songs from well-known Broadway plays such as The King and I, Beauty and the Beast, Cats, Phantom of the Opera and more, receiving several standing ovations and an encore at the performance close.
One guest asked if they actually performed on Broadway as they were so good. Several were moved to tears, including a guest whose late father’s favorite song was, “Time to Say Goodbye” which was their final song.
“Thank you for the beautiful evening! It was truly enjoyable. I think you have established a real cultural center for the community with such events.”
